SCIENTIFIC RATIONALE

The Chronic Kidney Disease–Mineral Bone Disorder (CKD-MBD) represents one of the most complex and multidimensional complications of CKD, with profound repercussions on skeletal and cardiovascular systems and a significant impact on patients’ well-being and survival.

In recent years, a new definition of CKD-associated osteoporosis has been proposed, introducing novel conceptual frameworks for understanding the pathophysiology of disordered calcium–phosphate homeostasis and the development of various bone and CV complications associated with CKD, with the potential to translate directly into better detection and diagnosis, better prevention, more effective treatment strateagies and improving outcomes for all patients with CKD.

In this context, the use of biosimilars is emerging as an opportunity to improve access to treatment while ensuring sustainability for healthcare systems.

This SMART FAD aims to:

  • Provide an updated international overview on the diagnosis of CKD-MBD
  • Compare evidence on originator denosumab and biosimilars
  • Discuss the role of targeted therapy in clinical settings
  • Analyze data on cost-effectiveness and healthcare sustainability
  • Encourage direct interaction with participants through Q&A sessions and TV-style educational format
